well you do have to be careful on what kind you wear.you want something that you can take off if things go array.
ones with velcro,snaps,or soft rubber material are better if your not used to wearing them.

I use both metal and rubber rings. Usually better in pairs (one cock ring and one rings for your balls). Find it can not only keep you harder longer, but more ridged and swollen. All the women I've used them want them all the time for the sight factor alone.

I use them a lot but you need to be careful when your cock starts to get too swollen as it de-sensitises a bit.
